True natural elixir, essential oils play an important role in your daily life. Inhalation, diffusion, ingestion or massage, discover their benefits on your health. Also known as plant essences, essential oils are extracted from plants. They are volatile aromatic compounds obtained either by mechanical extraction, by steam distillation or by dry distillation.
Essential oils: what are they?
Essential oils have been known since antiquity and used in Egypt, China and India. In France, aromatherapy was only developed in 1920 by the chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé.
Depending on the extraction process and the nature of the plant, it is possible to find organic or classic essential oils. Please note that not all essential oils are the same, so it is important to check the origin of the plant, as well as the method of extraction. The Feng Shui Shop only offers organic or high quality ayurvedic essential oils.
Why use essential oils?
According to health experts, organic essential oils play an important role on the cells of our body, but also on our health. Indeed, they are able to neutralize certain infectious agents. However, each essential oil has its own properties. Here is a small example:
- Antiseptic: essential oil of lavender
- Anti-infectious, even antibiotic: essential oil of linalool
- Anti-inflammatory and immunological: essential oils of wintergreen, lemon eucalyptus, etc.
- Anti-spasmodic: essential oil of dill, rosemary, true lavender, etc.
Some ayurvedic essential oils are also recommended during the change of season to strengthen the immune system and avoid sore throats or colds. They are natural remedies, sometimes longer to act than a drug, but just as effective.
How to use essential oils?
Essential oils are used in 4 different ways: ingestion, inhalation, diffusion or massage. Attention, if certain organic essential oils can be used by these 4 methods of taking, others on the other hand, will be able only to be diffused or inhaled. It is therefore important to refer to the instructions or to a health specialist.
Essential oils are also found in certain cosmetic or household products to provide a natural fragrance. In food, essential oils are used as a natural flavour enhancer.
When applied to the skin, some essential oils need to be mixed with a vegetable oil (olive, coconut, apricot, avocado...). In diffusion, each oil brings its benefits. It is better to favor a diffusion by misting or cold in order to preserve all the active agents of essential oils. However, to naturally perfume your interior, the use of a traditional candle diffuser is quite adapted.
