In China, three gods bring wealth, health and happiness. Better known as Fuk, Luk and Sau, they are also called the gods of blessing. In Feng Shui, statuettes of these Chinese gods are highly prized items. Here is all there is to know about Fuk, Luk and Sau.
These three deities are very popular in China, both in history and tradition. They are famous for their kindness especially towards Men. These gods would be at the origin of the 3 astrological stars.
Fuk symbolizes luck and happiness. There is also a symbol "Fu" which means "luck" and which is very often represented upside down on the doors of houses. Indeed, in Chinese, the words "luck" and "arrives" are pronounced the same way and an expression claims that "to put the happiness upside down" invokes the luck which "arrives". Fuk is depicted wearing a winged hat and holding a scepter.
Luk refers to prosperity. The symbol "lu" indicates the salary of the official in imperial China, in other words, someone important in society. Luk has a great importance in Chinese culture, but also in Japanese culture which followed the Confucian system to build its societal system (studies, exams and placement according to the results). He is represented wearing a traditional Chinese outfit and holding a ru yi scepter.
Finally, Sau materializes longevity. Taoism remains preponderant in China and life holds a very important place. The desire to live as long as possible is like a goal for many Chinese. Sau is the god who promises longevity. He is depicted with a dragon-headed rod made of fishing wood and holding the peach of immortality. Sau is also accompanied by a deer or a crane, symbols of longevity.
Luck, prosperity and longevity are three pillars of life. Feng Shui comes from the Asian culture. In other words, these three deities are essential to protect your home and your family. The Fuk, Luk and Sau statues are inseparable. That is why it is very rare to find them for sale separately.
The deities are often represented in resin or wood. However, it is also possible to find them in metal. Sometimes it is also possible to find the three star gods represented on paper or fabric with calligraphy inks or Chinese paintings.
In Feng Shui, it is recommended to install the Fuk Luk and Sau statuettes in the living room, dining room, office or entrance. It is better to place them in high places, like on a piece of furniture or a shelf.
